Waitomo County Council.
ORDINARY MEETING. I The usual monthly meeting of the j Waitomo County Council was held at Te Kuiti on Monday last. There j ware present: Messrs D. H. Lusk i (Chairman) Ormsby. Loverlay, JohnI sten and Hoffmann. . Leave of absence was granted to ,■ Messrs N. I- Hunt, Scholes, T. Hunt ‘ and Williamson. PEEAUNUI. A J. Coffin wrote requesting the Council to urge the Roads Department tn expend all available money on the Pekaunui road. The writer stated he understood there had been £2OO or £2ss voted on the Estimates, but nothing had been done. It was decided to leave the matter with the Chairman and Cr Hoffman to deal with. DEPt’TATIOM. Mesers Boddie and Steel, as representatives from the Te Kuiti Committee, waited on the Council far the purposevot urging tbe claims of certain roadeof the district for inclusion among the necessttious roads, on which the projected special expenditure of £2oo,oooper annum, forfive years islo be made. Mr Boodle suggested that as the Premier would probably visit the district next month, it was impdrtant that, proper steps should be taken to urge upon the Premier’s notice the great necessity xtf certain roads in the district for special consideration, Mr Boddie referred especially to the Main Auckland Taranaki road, and the Te Kuiti-Kawhia road through Oparure, and trusted the Council would strongly advocate their inclusion in' the scheme. Pfaie Te Kuiti residents intended to give prominence to. the roads question when the Premier came through, and hoped, thereby to strengthen the hand of rhp. Council in the matter. The Chairman said the Council was pleased- to have the co-operation of tbe townßesidents and would be glad to make strong representation's to the Premier, with a view to giving effect to the suggestions made. e The deputation then withdrew.
The question of necessitous roads was then discussed, and, on the motion of the Chairman, seconded by Gr Hoffman, it was decided to recom - mend the A uckland-Taranaki read, Te Kuiti-Kawhia road, Obura main road, and the Kawa-Kawhia road foif inclusion in the scheme outlined by the Premier. It was pointed out that »U tbe roads mentioned were main thoroughfares, which Served large distriots and formed the connection with tbe Main Trunk railway.
HAUTURU ROAD. Cr Hoffman applied for authority to expend £8 in anticipation of receiving “thirds” on Mr Howe’s section. Tbe work was urgently necessary.—The auihprity asked for was granted. FENCING A ROAD. C. J. Raudrup, agent for W. T. wrote requesting permission te erect a fence across Tetabi roadl.—lt was decided to grant the permission on condition that the fence would be pull ed down directly any objsetion was made (hereto. NEXT MEETING. The date of next meeting was fixed for tbe third Monday in March.—Ab bridged from Chronicle.
