]_COFT OF , “ Department of Roads. Wellington, 23rd October, 1907. Sir,—J hare the honor to acknowledge the receipt, through Mr Green■lade, M H.R , of your letter of the 3rd inst. In reply to your question as to why I delay sending an officer to enquire and report on * 'he manner in which the road work in the Kiritehere Block has been conducted, and suggesting that uch would be the wisest course to pursue, 1 have to say that it is not considered necessary to do so. and probably, notwithstanding your opinion, it would what I take to be the main object in view, to spend the money which such eupuiry would cost in the roads or tracks so much required. The remaining part of your letter being of a conteovareial nature I see no utility entering into further correspondence on ' the various statement* ynu put forward. In conclusion I will add that as au old buahman and settler I quite appreciate the hardships which you and your neighbours an Ser, and will do my very bast towards their alleviation with whatever money can be provided for the purpose.— Youra, e<j-., C.iV, Uuasraousi, Chief Engi« neer.”
