KING COUNTRY ROADS.
(to thk editc b ) Sir, —Enclosed is a copy of Cbitf Engineer 0. W. Hursthooje’s reply ?o my answer to the District Road Engineer’s report, alre-idy published in your paper. Will you please publish the sama for the benefit of those concerned? We ehail see in a very short time how they are going to fulfil their promises made to as lately in the matter of giving us iccees to the railroad. So far they have not made a move in that direction, the only thing is an endeavour to connect ns with the Marokopa, which we are told will happen shortly after the new year. Sir, your Kiritehere correspondent complains about a lack of labour for road and settlers work, but unfortunately he has overlooked the fact that two gangs of roadmen (three and five men respectively) have been starved out of here lately through the apathy or neglect of the Roads Department* I’s the same old story—when men are wanting work they say there is no money, when they haye the money they eay there are do men to do the work. Any evcuae will answer, so long as they can delay necessary work* —Yours, etc.,
B. GREGG.
