Native Land Court.
In—locking over last walk’s Government Gazette we notice I tb-i- a large number of native fr m Maori.! in the Kawhia district wne gazetted to be heard at Otorohangi on November 12th. Thinking tbat s> ch was detrimental to Kawhia’s interests the following telegram wag sent to Mr H. J. Grpenslade, M H.R. : “ Note Gazette October 21sh. Ka wbia ca-es gazetted Otorohanga N»vemhsr 12tb. Natives desire cases ad journed Kawhia. Dozens other cases not in would be it court came here. Kawhia has been neglected quite long enough and on behalf of all concerned most strongly object. Time we hod just a little justice. Personally disgusted. Reply— Pettit.” On Thursday we received a press wire as follows from our Wellington correspondent: Re sitting of Native Land Court at Kawhia. Mr Greeuslade, M H.R- saw tbe Native Minister aud Chief Judge Palmer and ascertained that all cases have to be gazetted for hearing somewhere and in this instance Otoruhanga has been selected as the centre. The judge at tbe court at Otorohanga can adjourn any of tbe cißes before him for hearing at any of the townships he wishes. If application is made for adjournment of any of the cases on list for hearing at Kawhia Judge Gilfedder seems predisposed to adjourn them there accordingly, and fix a special date.
