Kawhia Harbour Board.

A meeting of the above was held on Monday, 14tb, when there were present —Messrs W. J. Shaw (chairman), G. G. Jonathan, A. W. Babbage and H. Armstrong. THE BEACONS. It was reported that the beacons used in negotiating the bar were out of line. Mr Jonathan drew attention to ths fact that the matter had only been reported verbally. Tbe beacons should be placed in line with the channel, but it would be wise to have a written report, so that the authority on which the beacons ware altered could M- <»ny time be produced. Or Shaw .agreed with what the previous speaker had said. He had arI ranged with Captain Bark and Mr Berg to proceed with the alterations. It was decided that Mr Berg do tbe work as soon as the Board received Captain Bark’s written report. SHED ACCOMMODATION. Me Shaw said that a move woulfM soon have to be made in tbe direction of providing increased shed accommodation, ad when tbe flax season commeaoed the space would be totally in adequate. Tbe Board may erect a shed on shore, lease storage room or give a personal guarantee and approach the bank for an overdraft. Other members did not favour the idea of giving a personal guarantee, and the matter was held over. BEACH OBSTRUCTIONS Mr Pettit wrote complaining of the danger 'occasioned by people leaving obstructions on tbe beach, quoting an instance where he narrowly escaped serious injury through falling over a set of disc harrows. The Chairman said that the Board were powerless in the matter, INCREASING WHARFAGES. The wharfinger (Mr J. K. Newton) presented the following statement of wharfages collected: — Daring 1905 £lO9 6 6 During 1906 £147 17 2 Up to September 80th, *O7 £132 18 11 ACCOUNTS. The following accounts were passed for paymentH. Pettit £1 10s 6d. W. J. Shaw £6 6s, G. H. Chase £1 6s 6d, Insurance £1 15s, R. Nesbitt os, J. K, Newton £l5, A- Edwards £2 ss, Lands Department £1 4s 9J. THE ENDOWMENTS. A letter was read from the Hon. Mr Miller. Minister for Marine, stating that be had given instructions to have a clause drafted for insertion in the Land Disposal Bill giving effect to the request that the endowments be vested in the Kawhia County Council. The members expressed gratification at tbe result of the labour in this matter, aud on tbe motion of Messrs Jonathan and Shaw it was resolved—- “ That a hearty vote of thinks be accorded Mr F. W. Ling, M.H.R, for the great interest ha has taken iff respect to the harbour endowments, which has been very instrumental in gaining a satisfactory result.” PLAN OF COAST LINE. The Defence Department asked to be supplied with a plan of the coast line, to be used for defence purp ises only. It was decided to ask Mr A. Armstrong, C.E , to attend to this matter.
