School at Rakaunui.
Mr H. J. Green slack, M.H.R., has forwarded us the following letter from the Minister of Education, re the alme school: —“I have the honour to acknowledge tbe receipt of your letter of the 23rd instant covering a communication from Mrs H. J. Wbitcombe of Paramea, Kiwbia, with reference to tbe question of establishing a Native school on tbe lnlot. In reply 1 have to say that tbo position, briefly stated is as follows: —The establishment of a school has been approved and it is proposed to remove to Rak mnui tbe school building formerly in use at tbe na*ive settlement it Rao Rao, on the Aotea Harbour. Before this can ba done, however, the G wernment must possess a proper title co ibe land offered as a school, site at R-'kaunui. Steps in this direc ion are now being taken, the Surveyor-General having been requested to arrange for a survey of tbe land f>r the purpose of tbe Public Works Acf, under which it is proposed to proceed. As soon as the survey has been completed and a tide secured tenders will bs invi ed for the removal of tbj Rao Rao buildings aud their re-erec ion at Rakaunui.”
