These have baen divided into throe contracts as follows No. 8 starts at the boundary with the native laud near Messrs Newton’s and is 112 chains long. The work is principally widening, with the the exception of one short deviation, and two places where it is proposed to raise the road over rather swampy ground. About one half of the contract will be metalled. There is a good deal of rock showing along portions of the road, the quantity of which ill is not at present possible to estimatd, but will produce more stone than will be required for metalling. Contract No. 9 starts from the end of the road repaired by Mr Bohrieber in the early pai t of the year, and is 67 chains in length. On this contract it is proponed to do 25 chains of metall ’ ing. The balance of the work consists of widening the road to 14ft. Contract. No. 10 starts at the terminating peg of the last contract and is 68 chains long; this takes the work up to Mr T. Scott’s gite. Tne work is similiar to the last, 10 chains of which it is proposed to metal. The specifications for these three contracts are still to prepare. The settlers on this road expressed a wish to have the metal made 10ft wide ; this addi somewhat to the cost of the work. Contract No. 12 is for two deviations pf the road near Mr Sobye a. The
~ r-r contract is 20 chains long, but includes both deviations, and both are within the road lines. The present road is 7 chains longer than the deviations will b) when completed.
