OPPOSITION STEAM SERVICE.
(to the editor.) Sib, — A meeting was held al Kawhia some time ago on the above subject. Has nothing further eyentuated ? It seems that as soon as there is trade to attract opposition we shall have it The line offering to call here would not provide passenger accommodation. At present the toad outlet is impassable ? How then would passengers get to ana from Kawlya, l f we g>*t another boat of our own even, would shareholder" stick to it if au opposition Co. did cheaper work ? They w ould probably not, and are at present not agreeable to guarantee what light freights they have to a boat not citrying passengers. The Northern Co. baa stuck to Kawhia when it hardly paid ; they have lost a steamer worth mere tbe -Kawhia trade and it is only fair that we should stick to them. If we want a boat to trade to Wellington at any time we can get one if a sufficient cargo is guaranteed.—-Yours etc.. NORTHERN CHAMPION.
