Kawhia Town Board.
ORDINARY MEETING. The usual meeting of the above body was held at Mr Falwasser’s residence on Thursday evening last, when there were present—Messrs Jonathan (in the chair), Turrell and Falwasser. JERVOIS STBEFI. Mr Pettit wrote drawing attention to the fact that all the water from Jeryois street was now being drained on to his property, and asking that the waler be taken to the sea nsar the wharf. Clr Falwaeser moved and Or Turrell seconded :—“ That Crs Turrell and Jonathan be empowered to inspect the pldce referred to and act as they think fit.” THE COURT HOUSE. Or Turrell said that he had learned that the site for the new court house chosen was right at the back of the residence. He thought it would be wise for the Board to write and suggest that the building be erected on the rise facing Tainui street, which was a splendid position. It was resolved :—“ That the Public Works Department be approached in refeience to the proposed site of the court house which was to be erected, the plan showing that it- is to be built
on the section some distance back from the road. It is the opinion of this Board that the building would be better situated if built level with Tainui street, or if back from that only a few feet.” HEALTH. The question of the sanitary state of Kawhia was discussed. The Chairman did not think that matters were as they should be. Cr Falwasser agreed, referring particularly to the swamp abutting on to PuU9we street. It was eventually decided to notify the holders of low-lying section to improve same; and also to write to the Health Department drawing attention to the fact that the sanitation is poor, and that as the local bodies were not in a position to do much, to ask that Dr Jenkins be appointed health officer by the Government. THE RESERVES. Cr Turrell suggested that it would be advisable to inspect the hospital site with a view to leasing it. The Clerk: It is not yet vested in the Board. The Chairman: It would be safe enough to fence it. Cr .Falwasser thought that ail the reserves should be dealt with by calling tenders for a year to year lease of them. Tho following motion was carried : —“ That a committee consisting of Crs Turrell and Jonathan be deputed to go into the matter of reserves, to arrange in paddocks to the best advantage, and to be empowered to advertise calling for tenders at a year to year tenure, dates in all cases to be left to tbe committee.” STREET LAMPS.
