Te Anga.
(from an occasional correspondent.) MAIL MATTERS. A meeting of the settlers held at Te Anga on Saturday, 27th -J ly. Mr E. C. Stanley was voted to the chair. The Chairman said the meeting was convened for the purpose of considering the advisability of obtaining a mail service from Kinohaku to Mr John Shaw’s. He explained that some little time ago an endeavour had been made to arrange that the mail to Kiritehere should ba carried via Te Anga, and arrangements to that effect bad been msda. Since then he had hear 1 that the settlers at Kiritehere had decided to continue tbe ae *vice along the coast route. It only r mained for those on this side to do the best they could relative to tbe carrying of the mail. It was proposed by Mr Ross, “That the Government be requested to establish a post office at Mr J. Shaw’s, with a weekly service from Kinohaku to that office". Proposed by Mr Carr, “That the Government be asked to erect a telephone as far as Mr J. Shaw’s" FARMERS’ UNION. The Chairman then said that as the other business had been disposed of, there was another matter to bring before the meeting, viz , the forming of a branch of the Farmers’ Union at this end of the district. The branch at Kinohaku was practically defunct and in any case he was informed that tbe election of officers for the ensuing year was illegal, hence the advisability of forming a branch at Te Anga. It was proposed by Mr Ellmers “That a branch of the Farmers’ Union be formed at Te Anga, to be called, the Kawhia South Branch Farmers* Union." The following officers were elected ? —Mr E. C. Stanley, president ; Mr. Charles Haylock, vice president; Mr Peter Ross, secretary ; 6xecutive osmmittee, Messrs G. ’L Armitage, R. Thomas, H. Ellmers, H. Derecourt, and J. Smith. The Farmers' Union business was then proceeded with. It was propos&d by Mr Carr, “That two members expenses be pail for bringing trout from Hangatiki to stock tbe rivers." Proposed by Mr Ellmers, “Thnt the secretary write to the Minister of Public Works asking him to grant sufficient funds to finish the unformed portion of the Mangapohue road, and to point out to the Minister he value of this road to the settlers,as it is heir only outlet for stock." It was proposed by Mr R. Thomas, “That petitions in future a floating the district be sent through the Union.” It das decided to hold a meeting of the Executive committee once a month and a general meeting once every'tbrM months. Tbe subscripion per member was fixed at 6s.
