The owner, driver or person in charge of any vehicle which shall be driven or taken, or used upon, over or along any such road, track, bridge, culvert, (erry or ford shall bo deemed to have committed a breach of this Bylaw if the width of the tire of the wheels, or any of them,of -such vehicle be less than is required by this part of this By-law ; and the said owner, driver or person in charge shall severally be liable for every such breach. No more than eight bullocks shall be used at any one time as traction animals to any vehicle having two wheels nor more than twelve bullocks a’i traciion animals to any vehicle having four wheels. Any person authorised in that behalf by the Council or any police officer may at ail limes examine and meSture Ibe tires of the wheels of any vehicles and for that purpose may enter upon the premises of any person having the custody of such vehicle, and any person who shall obstruct or interfere with the officer or person so appointed, constable or police officer or refuse to permit such examination and measurement, or to give access to such vehicle as aforesaid, shall, be deemed to have committed a breach of this By-law. No person shall engage or conduct in the hauling, dragging or other conyeying of any timber or other heavy material in such a manner that the said timber or other heavy material be not wholly raised from the surface of any road, track, bridge, culvert, ferry or ford by means of wheels unless the consent of the County Engineer shall have been first obtained to such hauling, dragging or conveying. Any person authorised in that behalf by the council, or any police officer, may stop and detain any vehicle or machine which in his opinion infringes this By law, and examine, and measure the width of the tires, and examine, measure and compute the nature and weight of the load. And any person in charge of such vehicle or machine, who shall refuse to permit or shall hinder or prevent such measuring or examination, shall be guilty of an offence under this By-law. The driver of any vehicle or machine shall, whenever so required by any constable or person authorised by the Council, give to such constable or person, such information as to the load or contents of such vehicle or machine and the quantity, weight, size or measurement of the tame, and shall do such acts for enabling the same to be ascertained, as such constable or person may reasonably require. No vehicle drawn by a traction engineer by more than eight animals shall be driven, taken or used upon, over or along any track, road, bridge or culvert, without the permission in writing of the Council of tbe County of Kawbia or its engineer and then only at such times and on such terms and conditions as may be prescribed by tbe said Council or Engineer. The

owner, driver or person in charge of any such vehicle, driving, taking or using such vehicle as aforesaid, without such written permission shall severally be deemed to have committed a breach of this By law. No person shall drive or take 'any traction engine, which, with the load or contents thereof, exceeds ten tons in weight, or any agricultural or other machine or vehicle which, with the load or contents thereof exceeds five tons in weight, over or upon any bridge or culvert, unless, and until he shall have complied with the follow ing provisions and have obtained the written consent of the Council, os here in provided. Any person desiring to d ive or take any such traction engine, agricultural or other machine or vehicle as aforesaid, over any bridge or culvert, shall apply for permission to the Bounty engineer, and shall, at his own expense, make such provisions for strengthening and protecting the bridge or culvert by affixing planks or otherwise as the County Engineer shall direct. And the County Engineer may give to such person written authority to drive and take such traction engine, agricultural or other machine or vehicle on, or over the said -bridge or culvert, subject to the appli-
