The N.S.S. Co' s Tender.

The s.s. Rothesay arrived from Marokopa on Thursday eveoiog, May 28rd, with a load of 27 bales of flax. The trip round was very bad. It is gratifying to know that the boat is doing much better than heretofore, and it is universally admitted chat in Captain Roberts and Engineer Priestley wo have two capable and obliging officers, who will use tbeir best endeavours to meet the'requirements of tbe trade.

The fine weather of to-day (Friday) induced Captain Roberts to venture out of the harbour to attempt to effect a landing at Haribari or get into the Marokopa River. Going down the coast a heavy B.W. deep sea roll was met, probably the result of a distant bljw. Bell’s brought their boat to tb<3 beach, but after waiting awhile it was evident the surf was too consistently heavy. At Marokopa the sea was breaking right across tbe entrance, with every now and then an extra big break The Rothesay was run close in, just beyond the boiling surf, waiting the chance of a lull, but after pitching and rolling about for some time in anything but a pleasant man net the trip had to be abandoned, and she returned to Kawhia after eight hours useless steaming. This brings before the public the urgent need of telephone communication between Marokopa and Kawhia. On several occasions the Rothesay has had to return without getting into tbe river. In some states of the weather it is not possible to know from here what the Marokopa bar is like, and a word through a telephone 'would mean the saving of much trouble and expense.
