Kiritehere.

(from our own oorrespondknt.) Tbe grass seed sowing is now over for this season, and the young grass has taken well in most cases. The caterpillar pest made its appearance aqd destroyed the young grass on the sunny side of the. hilltops, which will mean sowing again ia some instances. Some of our sectiers are getting in sheep; there is likely to be a large increase during the coming season. Lash felling has started. Mt Vicary has let 400 acres and is likely to have 500 acres felled this season, and several other settlers are arranging so let contracts. Road work is making steady progress. There are four contracts working at present in the Kiritehere valley. It is to be hoped that the Roads Depart* ment will see its way clear to bavethe Waipaua Road completed daring the coming year, as this road is most urgently needed. It connects the the Kiritehere settlers with the Marokopa heads. Mr Whitcombe, of Kawhia, is at present engaged surveying the Karaka Block of land for Messrs Jones Bros., of Hawera.

Arrangements haye been made to erect a temporary school building at tbe Marokopa Heads, the Board of Education undertaking to find a teacher. The school will very likely be opened m two months time. j Mr J. Willison is having a new store built at Marokopa. Tbe Marokopa flaxmill is likely to shut down shortly for the winter, and arrangements are being made to have a mill erected at Tawhau. Messrs Bell Bros, and Ross seem to be having a very successful season. They are getting their fibre away better than of late years. There seems every likelihood of a Haxraili being put in at the Munghu during the next summer. The little boat Kotahi continues to give every satisfaction, but the Rothesay seems to be unsuitable for tbe trade.
