(from our ows o'Rass? w x-rr 1 The ap »rts whuji '<«> place here oa Tha *s is» a• 14 a t< ■ . were por.p »oed idl the f >l* »wi By (Friday). Tbe vari >ae eve its oa tue programme were very »ly c• i tested and greatly appreciated by .be admiring and interested spectat »ra, a great percentage of whom belonged te the gentler sex. I don't wish to particularise on any one event, but yai the Cross Country Race special mention. It was indeed severe trial for mere man to endu -s. Amongsi other obstacles there w m tn eight wire fonoe to cross, two >t bt wires being barbed, but th»nk< to tbe agility and skill of tbe five c »ntes sots this obstacle was safely negotiant -«<id a very close finish between H Di-e--oourt, Crotty and Sadler results i, ao three heroes of tbe race breas i g th; tape almost together. Ao ithe- e» >a , the Tug of War, between tbe matiri and single men, which caused so much excitement last year and aim >st re suited ia a declaration of war, eodid in peace this year, owing to the uusiundaess of tbe rope. Bit then, Mr Editor, when I realise that the ropa was supplied by a siugla man, and also tbe earnest look of all, and the great weight of some vn tbe married man's side, I find it hard to blame the supplier of that rope even if he did w irk an oracle to save his side from disaster. A well attended dance at Mr Harper's biardinghnuse brought the day's proceedings to a close, each and all expressing satisfaction with the enjoyment provided. The various evonts resulted as follows Maidan Chop—A. Pollock I. H.
