KAWHIA HACK RACING CLUB. A uiaeGug of those interested in the above was held iu Mr Falwasser’s office on Saturday fast, when about a dr-zan enthusiasts attended, Mr Jonathan presiding. _ Il was decided to hold an unregia tered meeting on Friday, March 220 d, on a course at Tores, and to place tbe balance of £4 10s 3d from the last snorts to the credit of the club. A programme of eight events was adopted as fol’ows:—Hurdles, £5 and £1; Maiden, £4 cud £1 ; Handicap, £3 and £2; Pony, £2 10s and £1; Flying (native owners only), £3 and £1 : Conso'-ation, £8; Trot, £l, with fweep of ss. A social and dance is to be held in tbe evening, the tickets for which were fixed at os, double tickets 4s 6d, extra lady Is od.

Three started. In the evening a dance was held at Hikaparia. LAWN TENNIS. The members of the Kawhia club are busily engaged competing for the president’s (Mr Mason) trophies, and already some excellent games haye been decided.

Mr A. Jourdain (22 behind) has won the trophy presented by Mr H. Pettit to tbe Oparau Clnb. Play is now proceeding for Mr Crotty’s prize. Tbe Kawhia Cinb hare decided to send a team to Hamilton to compete in tbe Euater tournament, and it is expected that some enthusiasts will also make tbe journey. Miss Stevens and Mr Joua’han and Mrs McCarthy and Mr Pettit will compete iu the combined doubles, Mrs M C .ithy and Miss Stevens in the ladies* doubles, Messrs Jonathan and Pettit in tbe gent’s double, whilst it is probable that all the players will compete in the singles.

CRICKET. KAWAIA V. OPARAU. The above teams met for tho first time this season on Saturday last, when victory rested with the home team, who had 84 runs to spare. Pettit and Jourdain were tbe respeotiye skippers. Kawhia went to the wickets and made 59, of which total Derecourt was top with 19. Chase and Friday (both new players) showed promise in notching 12 end 10 respectively. Symons bowled particularly well, securin’6 wickets for 20 runs Oparau replied with 93, of which number Inman scored 30 by excellent batting. Mountfort (19), W. Edwards (18), and Mbrais (11), also played well, whilst Sundries was responsible for 15. Pettit trundled well, his average reading 8 tor 22. Appended are the scores : KAWHIA.
