(from our own correspondent.) Although a lot has been said about getting money to form and gravel our roads,, nothing appears on the surface (of the roads I mean) as yet. It is time those responsible for this exasperating delay set themselves to their with the determination to succeed, whan they will do so, thus gaining our confidence and respect The following departmental letters have bven handed to me and should prove interesting :—“ I bag to acknowledge receipt of your letter dated January 22nd. In reply I have to inform you that the question of the opening up of railways is a matter for the Public Works Department, and I would suggest that ynu put the valuable information you have forwarded to me at their di?poeal. In reference to the question of acquiring native lands, you will see that we have recently ap pointed a Commission to go into tbe whole question, and that body will at an early date report tn the Government as to tbe steps necassary to be taken.
