Kinohaku.

(from a correspondent.) I often think when I read your paper week after week and fail to find any account of the doings and progress of our all important district, what a pity it is. It certainly is not because there is nothing worth reporting, as any casual observer of men anu things ought to have plenty <f material to work on, Probably the reason is, as has been suggested, that the terrjri<to hare correspondents intimidated. However, I think no sane man would be influenc d by the donkeyfied wads of those worthless disturbers of our social peace. There is considerable disappointment and numerous complaints here owing to what is stated to be the ujsatictaotory way in *h oh the roid work his been managed of late. I am not connected with this b.anc'n of th-* civil service, but judging by the growling one heais on all sides there certainly is rood for itnpr ivement. So let us hepe that the powers that ba will eventually eee the e ror of their ways and resolve to sin no more.

The long-expected telephone is now an established fact, and if there is any tru h in the saying that experience teaches, Mr Turnbull ought to have a thorough knowledge of post olhce business, as ha has been connected with the department for a considerable number of years,

The interests of the heroes on the lan.l—--that is the producing section of them—a.e being attended to by Mr Sep. Wright, who hss s ar; d a t«am of horses and thus commenced a business that is bound to develops as time goes on.

I am informal that the Kinohaku Axemen's Carnival and Sports are to bs held this year at Maugauhinga, about the middle of March, as there is no dutiable ground at present available nearer the harbour. A car pt tn proportion of the people here desire to have them held nearer the harbour, but under the eircu we must be content for this year’s carnival, and try and prepare a suitable ground more convenient for next year’s event. It would be far better for those self-appointed judges in sporting matte... to take a real live interest in what after all is bound to survive th nr biting sarcasm. I may not be consilered a fai critic on matters in general, but, however, I will continue to write as I think, although perhaps it is not the action of a wise man.
