(By TiLtoaora.) (Special to the settler.) Wellington, 20ib, 4.10 p.m. So far the Land Committee*has not made much progress with tha oewsideration of the new Land Bill, but the crucial stage will be reached almost immediately when tbe question of giving the lease in perpetuity settlers the right to freehold will be under discussion. It is practically certain that on this point the Government will be beaten, as counting off the noe« ou tbe committee shows that there is a majority of one in fayour of granting the right to acquire the freehold at the original valuation. The Bill is not expected to merge from the committee for a weak or two. Mr Greenslad**, M.H.R., has seen the Premier several times urging the importance of as soon as possible ob the opinion of the Crown Law Office as to whether the error in advertising the Kawhia County Loans as for 44 years instead of 41 years can be validated by an order-in-Oouucil. Tbe Crown Solicitor has not jret given bis opinion. The member for Waikato is anxious to use every endeavour to ob tain a £ tor JC subsidy ou the loans ibis session and bis efforts are somewhat hamje ed by the delay.
