Kiritehera.

(FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) Signs of the progress of the district are marked by the contant arrival of pnpulati n, the latest to arrive boing Messrs Tomplftmarj Bros-, Mr and MrPower, and Messrs Jones Bros., of M- kau. The latter have bought Mr Hamilton’s section and have already slatted to fall bush. Over 80 men are engaged in falling in the Kiritehere Valley at the present time. The Acclimatisation S ciety -forwarded a con-ignmant of rainbow trout ov.i to bo liberated in the Kirita here stream. Mr Percy Rose under t ok iho ta*k and deserves tho thank of the Hetrkrs for the able manner ia which he carried out the difficult undertaking, when it is considered that he had to carry a box weighing over 40lb. on his back for a distance of 24 miles over rough tracks. Tha ova has t> be handled very carefully, consequently could not be packed. 1 understand that a further consignment of ova is to arrive later on to be liberated in the Marokopa River. Road construction is being pushed forward, aud satisfactory progress la being made. Messrs Corbett and Rua have been engaged blasting out Lhe Tauhua and Paparoa rocks. This is a very necessary piece of work, as packhorses bad a difficult task to climb over these rocks, very often falling and bruising themselves b idly. An effort is also being made to get road grants for the district during the present Se? sion.

I hear that the Te Kuiti and Kawhia football teams - are to play the Marokopa fifteen (on the latter’s ground shortly). [We do hot think the match against Kiwhia will eventuate, Kawhia finding it impossible to raise a team.—Ed. B.J

Now that the fine woa'har has set in, preparations are being made for planting season.
