Kawhia Congregational Church.

ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the congee gation of the above church was held on Wednesday evening, Bth inst., tbe Bsv. R. Mitchell presiding. The attendance was not very larg-a. Mr Mitchell said that the finances were better than last year. Mr M'Cardlo moved the adoption of the report, and in doing so gave tbe Rov. Mr Mitchell great praise for his ardent ministrations, and expressed tbe hope that ho would remain in Kawhia. Mr Ward seconded the motion, which was carried.

The Rev Mr Mitchell said that occasionally during the last he had at times felt discouraged. He had had a lot of calls on his time during the year, and more demands on hie time than anyone knew of. .He had reason io be thankful, for the congregations bad been very good, and be questioned if there was auothex' place iu Now Zealand that could get such a high percentage of attendants. He would like to see a better system of finance and would suggest that the people should assess themselves, so that people who did not attend church regularly would give monthly donations. For tbe future he would not occupy the pulpic at Kawbia so often, as ho would haye to be ie tbe oonutry districts more. He intended to go to Marakupa and Kiritehero once overy month or six week< It was a long journey and probably Eo would have to bold week night services. There would also probably occasionally be a service at the Junction (Kinohaku) in the morning, at the landing iu tbe afternoon, and return to Kawbia iu tbe evening. There was a proposal to place a minister at Te Kuiti, which would help him with the Tc Rau-a-moa service. He thanked tbe congregation for their support, and be would do bis be*t for the future. Tbe election of the committee resulted as follows :—Mesdames Perham, Newton, Barron, Messrs Durham, Ward, Turvey. Mr M’Cardle expressed gratification at tbe appointment of tbe Hou. G. Fowlds to the Ministry, and moved “ That a congratulatory telegram be sent to the Hon Geo. Fowlds on his being called to the Cabinet.” Mr Ward seooneed the motion, which was carried. Refreshments were handed round by the ladies, after which tbe meeting closed by the pronouncing of tbe Benediction.
