Kintehere Settlers’ Association.

When Mr Greenstone, M.H.R.. was in Kawhia on the 2nd inst., a deputation of members of the above association—Messrs Smith, Johnston, Willison, Gregg and Rose (secretary) waited upon the member relative to very urgent works in that district. Tbe first matter brought forward was the terrible state of the road over tbs Potaka, where huge slips had blocked the road, which was then absolutely impassible. It was asserted that only that day the mail from Kiritehere had been lost, and at the very time tbe deputation were approaching Mr Greenelade men were engaged digging away the slips to release the horse and thus recover it. During the previous week three pack-horses had been lost. The deviation of the Marokopa Valley road and bridge site from its present position to a site opposite Mr Haylock’s landing and then down the river through Mr Forbes aud Messrs Jones Bros.’ properties was also urgiA. The Kai rim u road required constructing up to tbe Mangakokopu saddle. It was requested that tt)e construction of the Waipawa and Kiritehere roads be

vigorously prosecuted. Mr Greenslade received tbe deputation with great courtesy, and immediately telegraphed tbe following stren-

uous appeal to the Hon. Hall-Jones : —“ Strongly urge increasing contract Wbakabau road from 28 to 40 chains, giving access to sections above. Also tho expenditure of £35 immediately on blasting rocks on beach between Marakopa and Harihari. Very bad slips on Potaka must be removed ; three horses lost this week, Government mail lost to-day, men digging in slip at this moment trying to find same. Kindly forward necessary authority for completion of these jobs.” In addition to the above Mr Greenelade, on behalf of tbe association, forwarded a lengthy letter to the Hon. Hall-Jones, explaining more fully tbe urgent want* of the district.’]
