Kawhia Axemen’s Carnival.
In forwarding cheque for £2 5s 61 for prizes in the Boy’s Chop at the recent carnival to the secretary (Mr E. Falwasser), Mr Percy Basley writes : “ When I am ia Kawhia again I will confer with you as to giving the same prizei again for a Boys’ Handicip Champion Chop. Let me hope that the folk alh round the harbour will also enter into the spirit of the pastime, and so make tbe entries bigger and thereby aid the interests of the small boy—the chopper and settler to come whose future I have at heart.”
* A meeting of the executive was held op Tuesday night, when Mr Falwasser presented the following balance-sheet: —Receipts: Nominations and acceptances, £22 ; members rickets and sub soriptions, £lB 7s ; gates, £ll 12* 61; bookmakers* fees, £1 Is; dance, £9 7s; programmes, £1 ; license fees, lOi ; sale of blocks, £1 101; booth, £3 Is ; late subscriptions, £1 Ils ; oustanding accounts, £8 18s; total, £73 17s 61. Expenditure : Sfianip’, ssationery and wires, 10s; affiliation fee, 10s 61 ; expenses. dummy blocks, 18s; blocks, £lO Is 7d ; spade lost, posts and stays, 8i; wages, £1 4F61; prizss, £32 17s 61 ; hall, £1 10*; posts and timber, Qs 3d; nails, ate., 4s 91; oil ering fpr dance, £4 6* 8d ; advertising, printing, etc., £4 16s ; carting blocks, £1 IBi ■ dogs, 18s ; exchange, 2s 6d; wfeby for ladies* saw, £1 ; total, £63 8s sd. Credit balance, £lO 14s Id. The balance sheet was adopted. An honorarium of £3 8s was voted to the secretary, aud the following motion was carried : “ That this executive wish to place on record its high appreciation of the efforts of tbe secretary, Mr Falwasser, to bring the carnival to such a successful issue.”
