Local Census Returns.
A MARKED INCREASE. Tbe census returns for the district of which Mr J. S. Bond, of Hamilton, is enumerator, were completed last week, and show an increase in almost every case, and as an increase in population is tbe best guage of the increase in prosperity, it will be seen from the figures given below that this portion of the Auckland Province has prospered ye?y considerably. The following are the local returns : KAWHIA COUNTY. Matakowhia Riding ... 205 Te Kauri Riding ... 18 Te Awaroa Riding ... 83 Kawhia Riding 224 Taharoa Riding 92 Waiharakeke Riding ... 63Total , 690 WAITOMO COUNTY. Te Rau-a<*moa Riding ... 127 Otorobanga Riding ... 445 Hangitiki Riding ... 73 Waitomo Riding ... 186 Te Kuiti Riding... ... 266 Paemako Riding ... 102 Mairoa Riding 79 Total 1228 The population of the Raglan County is 2285. Waitomo, Kawhia and Awakino Counties were iu one last census, and tbe population totalled 1113. The totals from Kawhia and Waitomo now exceed the grand total of 1901 by 805, to which there is yet to be added the Awakino returns.
