Farmers’ Union.
PIRONGIA WEST BRANCH,
The annual meeting of the Pircngia West Branch of the Farmers’ Union was held at Oparau on April 7th, when there was only a moderate attendance of members. Mr H. Boesen presided. The Chairman gave a resume of tbe past year’s work, the most important items being as follows The visit of the Colonial Organiser in June, meetings being held at Kawhia, Oparau aud To Rau-a-moa ; nitro-cultures supplied by tbe Agricultural Department were tested by several members, but ramUs’seemed to show that they would be of no value in the Oparau district; a resolution, advocating the extension of raral education, was sent to the member for the district, and notice of motion re roads and native lands was sent to tho Auckland executive ; a list of brands and earmarks in tbe district had been commenced by the sec.etary; the Agricultural Departments publications bad been procured for tbe perusal of members ; a reduction in accident insurance risks to members had been arranged ; tbe Provincial Secretary had arranged to supply members with seed, wire, etc., at wholesale rates.
The balance sheet was presented and adopted. It was proposed that the retiring chairman (Mr Boesen) be elected, but that gentleman declined to undertake the duties for a farther term, whereupon Mr T. B. Scott was elected to tuat pjsition. Mr 0. Bell, the retiring secretary, was proposed for re election, but he also declined, and Mr L-pton Clarson was elected to the vacancy. Mr A. Yells was re-appointed vicechairman, and Messrs Bubye and Yells auditors.
Tho following committee was elected ; —Messrs T. 13. Anderson, A. Armstrong, C. Bell, H. Boesen, A, W. Elliott, J. Easy, A. Schrieber and W. Sobye. Mr (J. jßell was appointed delegate to the Provincial Conference, which will be held in Auckland in May. A vote of thanks to the officers uf the past year brought tho meeting to a close.
