Kiritehere.

(FROM OUB OWN OORBKBPOEDENT.) Since my last letter wj have had n visit from the Land Bsard. The Cotqmiasioner and party were delighted of the land hereabout* tbe Marakopa - expressed tbe Ofe’wWjy *- be vr »kopa River will ' suture cu.let for tbe whole tbe ciasf, and considers ■ than tho Wbaka Coast, and that would have uo d the river ia line weather, nine to 10 feet of I water on the bar at high tide. A de- ? putation of settlers waited on the Com- i missioner on bis arrival at the Maro- ' kopa Head?, and urged the erection of a wharf and cattle yards at Te Maika | for tba shipping of cattle and fencing ■ in a paddock for stock landed from I boats. A. promise to giva every assist- • acce in the matter was made. Another question brought forward was that of unoccupied sections, to which the Commissioner asked the assistance of the settlers by giving information about absentees. This a very serious matter, there being fat too many unimproved sections ia the district. The question will be more fully g »ne into ot i;he next meeting of tbe Settlers’ Association. |

The settlers have all saccaeded in burning off their bash, and takan a l * a whole tbe burns have been fairly good. Tbe order of the day mw is grass-seeding, and strings of pack horses are to ba seen almost d*uiy • ending their way from Te Mxiki to Kiritehere loaded with grass-seed ; this has been going on for week? and will continue for some time yet. This does not represent al! the grass-seed a? over five tons have b?en picked io through Kinobaku and then brought down the Marokwpo River in cinoes to Messrs Vickery. Johnson and Smith’s. Taken altogether we are a very seedy lot.

Some time ago a controversey was taking place in the Settler as to the value of the Coast Road from Te Maika to Kiritehere, sc I decided to have a record k-pt as to tbe number of pack horse Joads leaving Te Maixa for Marakopa and Kiritehere, aud also} the number of loads of fibre arriving at Te Maika. There is an average of 35 horse loads of goods leaving Te Maika weekly, whilst on an average 30 horse loads arrive, a total of 65 horse loadper week. This does not r present alt tbe traffic, but should give some idsa of the value of this road.
