Oparau Sports.

The results of the above sport* were briefly given in oar last ba comments baa to be left over. Preu tice, the secratary, was, as usual, courteous, obliging and energetic, three qualities essential to the successful carrying out ot (he many duties which feli to his lot. He was ably supported by the jidges, starters and members of the committee. Air A. Ward had the refreshment booth and seemed to do a good business, whilst a couple of u books " were kept fairly well employed writing oat tickets. The events were well contested,and some excellent axemanship was shown, particalarly by Russell in the under band, who was unfortunate in losing the ptize through startiug at the wrong time, thoagh he had a lot to spare at tbe finish. The novice chop was the event upon which (heinterest of all was centred, as a great deal had been heard of the new chnms who were chopping. Many trades and professions were represented, the competitors being a storekeeper, dentist, bootmaker, photographer, printer, doctor, schoolmaster aud cadet, bat each seemed to handle the axe as “ if to the manner born.” Sutton was the popular pick, and succeeded in annexing the quid., though Jonathan (who was oue of the “ dark horses,") nearly M upset the pot.” He had, however, some recompense in being awarded the special prize for tbe best scarf, and justly deserved ir. Baird and Prentice were a dead beat for third place, whilst Pettit finished fourth. M'Cheeney, Brown and Dr Jenkins found the task too heavy, aud knocked off when they had gone about half-way through the Sin. log. Iu tbe evening a dance was held in Scott's Hall, about 50 couples attending. Alias Steyer. 8 (piano) and Mr Jonathan (piccolo) provided tbe music, Mr H, Armrtrong officiating as M.C.
