Rating Native Land.

THE APPEAL ABANDONED. We are in receipt of a copy of lhe following circular, which speaks for itself: Valuation Department, Wellington. 12th October, 1905. Circular Memorandum. At an Assessment Court rpcently] held at Otorohanga it was decided that] all native lands which are restricted' from sale by law have no saleable value, and I propose to adopt that ruling for tbe colony. Will you, please, therefore note that any such lands should not be entered on the local valuation roll. I may mention that the Government has decided not to embody in the Rating Bill now before tbe House a provision to enable native lands restricted from sale to be placed on the rating rolls. The appeal proceedings will not be continued. (Bgd) G. F. 0. CAMPBELL, Valuer-General.
