NOXIOUS WEEDS.

(to the editor.) Sir, —As a stranger to Kawhia you will excase my venturing to criticise the condition of your little town. I have in my spare time wandered over the place, and although the bulk of the land is fairly clean there is one section, evidently belonging to pn ah sen tee, which is not only a disgrace to any oivilioed community bat a menace to the whole district. I came with the intention of settling in yoar lovely district, bat when I see what I can only term a plague spot in your midst I will think twice before I speculate. Although this section is only two or three square chains, there are enough noxious weeds on it to render thousands of acres of land if not yalaeless so deprecated in worth as to make one consider what sort of local body yon have in power. There I saw Californian thistle galore, Bathurst burr, braokberry, briar, penny royal and perhaps a d< zen or more weeds or a leas noxious degree. A few pounds would ©radicate all as the area is so small now. |Bat thiak of the spreading power a few head of cattle and a dozen or two sheep passing through this will have. Try and ase yoar valuable poper in having something done.—Yours, etc., TARANAKI. [We regrot to inform our correspondent that the soctio nreferred to is not under the control of the local body, but is a Government section and all our representations havo hitherto been unavailing. We quite recognise the immediate necessity of something being done. It is a pity the inspector of noxious weeds does not.— Ed. S.]
