KAWHIA COUNTY CLUB.

The dances under the auspices of j the Kawhia County Lawn Tennis I Club have become recognised as pleasant and enjoyable functions, and nothing further need be said than that tbe one which eventuated on Thursday night last wail as successful as those held previously. There were about 85 couples in attendance, visitors being present firom Kinohaku, Te Biu-a-moa and Oparau. The labour of tbe committee in decorating the ball and specially preparing the floor Were rewarded by etch work being highly commended. Messrs Jourdain aud F. Newton suoeetsfully carried out the duties of M’s.Q., whilst tho supper provided by Me Turrell aud tbe ladies was of a bigh-class order Mrs Langlay (piano) and W. Davies (flute and piccolo) provided the bulk of the music, and the excellence was the subject of much comment. Mrs Crotty, Messrs Pearson and Prentice (piano) also assisted. Shortly before the dance terminated (about 2 a.m.) Mr Pettit, on behalf of the committee,. thanked tbe musicians for their able services, which was supported by acclamation.

There voro fuLy 40 persons peasant at the opening of the court ou Friday, the weather being favourable. Tbe c.mrt was declared open by Mr F. A. Pearson, who expressed pluasure at seeing so many visitors present, and extending them a hearty welcome to tbe court at all limes. Play was merrily proceeded with all the after- j noon, promising form being shown by ( many of the new members. Afternoon ■' tea wi? supplied by the ladLs
