SPECIAL TO TUS SKTTLER. Wbllinotom, Thnrs. Nov. 2. The session of Parliament ended on Tuesday. Road votes for the Kawhia district appeared on the supplementary Estimates as follows: Awaroa to Waiharakeke ..« £2OO Jervois Street, Kawhia ... £75 Kinohaku to Harbour ... £l5O Marokopa River Entrance and Snagging £l5O These were agreed to. In criticising the vote of JGOOO set down for placing electors on the rolls, Mr Lang fastened upon a statement made by the Minister of Lands that the expenditure was undertaken for the bsnrfit of-baek-block settlers, and stated that the settlers would more appreciate the application of the money to their roads. Daring the discussion on the Scenery Preservation Vote. Mr Lang pointed out that in the Kawhia district there was beautiful scenery around the harbour and rivers, which ought to be preserved. On the other hand there were many blocks in the back blocks which had been preserved that were quite out af tfie way of tourists, whilst their preservation had greatly hampered settlers.—The Minister of Lands is to look into the matter. The Go ver men t has purchased the Waitomo Caves and the adjoining property, incluling the accommodation house. It is intended to place a caretaker at tj)e cave, and -light them by electricity.
