A PREVENTATIVE. The disease which at present is affecting the potato crops of New Zealand eo seriously has been proved beyond doubt tl e " True Irish Blight. The Bordeaux mixture prevents the germi nation of fungas spores. Treacle makes the mixture more adhesive. If there is r ason to suspect the presence of insects, such as the brenze beetle or potato moth 4oz. of Faris Green may be made into a paste and stirred into the mixture. In tbe case of the second and third spray, ings. and of crops already grown, where the foliage is toughened, the 6 I’4o formula (i.e.,6 lb bluestone, 41b lime, an* l 40 gallons water) may be used with advantage, Should rain fall within three or tour hours after spraying, it will, of course, be necessary to repeat the dressing as soon as possible.; Caution.—See that the bluestone is pure and the lime fresh. Spray at once, using from 50 to 76 gallons of mixture per acre Whenever you see any disease in any crop, remove some plants, pack in a small box or tin, and post direct, addressed " The Government Biologist, Departmen c of Agricnltuie, Wellington.” The specimens will te examined and report eent free. &o not wait till the nisease has such a hold that the crop cannot be saved.
