Te Rau-a-moa.
(from our own correspondent.)
The election of councillor for the Te Rau-a-moa Riding of the Waitomo County resulted in the return of Mr W. J. Hoffmann, unopposed. Mr Judd was nominated, but through some error in the compilation of the roll bis name was left off, therefore be was not qualified to go to the poll. If both nominations bad been valid a close contest would have resulted.
Many of our settlers are making preparations for milking during the present season. I trust that the settlers will this year pull together and all milk, so that we may make a success of the venture. We do not want to Joe the only district in New Zealand where dairying has failed. The local post office has been made a savings bank and money order office, and the change will prove beneficial. All we want now is telephone communication between here and Kawhia and Pirongia, then we would be set up altogether. It is time that we had a telephone line running through Te Rau-a-moa.
We are watching the movement to connect the Kawhia Harbour and Main Trunk Line by railway very closely, and trust that the energy displayed by those who are pushing ths matter will bear fruit. [So do we. —Ed. S.]
