THE GERMAN BLOCKADE.
TWO VESSELS SUNK. London, Wednesday. The collier Dulwich, 3200 tons, was blown up by two explosions at Cap d'Antifer, near Havre A French cruiser rescued 21 of the crew, and the rest landed at Fecamp, north of Havre. It has been established that the collier was probably by a submarine, without the slightest warning being given to the crew. The night was clsar, and there was every opportunity to give warning had the crew wished to do so. The German submarina Ul6 on Tuesday bI9W up and sank the French steamer Ville de Lille between Cherbourg and Dunkirk, giving the crew ten minutes to escape. The submarine was about to sink a Norwegian steamer when torpedo boats arrived and the submarine disappeared. REASON FOR BLOCKADE.
GERMANY'S DIRE STRAITS. MUST FEED THE PEOPLE. London, Wednesday. A Berlin wireless message received in New York states that Admiral Behcke informed an American naval attache that the stoppage of food and supplies v/as» forced on Germany, which had reached the point where she was no longer able to feed her people. It waa necessary to bring England to tejms, and therefore the blockade was adopted as the only means of Germany saving herself. Tha Italian Ambassador in the friendliest spirit, directed* Germany's attention to the rules of International Law governing the rights of neutrals, and asked for a clear declaration of Germany's attitude. The Ambassador declared that no act of war against a ship was justifiable- upon the mere presumption that a neutral flag was covering an enemy vessel. The Vossische Zeitung has announced that Zeppelins will participate in the blockade of the British coasts.
A lifebuoy, apparently belonging to German submarine No. 12, was found at Zrydcoote, between Dunkirk and Nieuport.
