A cable message was received in Auckland on Thursday announcing the death of the Rev. W. F. Long, who was attached to the Melaneaian Mission at Norfolk Island. The message briefly states that he met his death by drowning when Baving the life of one of the Melanesian boys. This is the second death by drowning that the mission has suffered during the last two years. Mr Long was educated at Oxford and the Leeds Clergy Training School, and was ordained in 1903. Ten years, later he joined the mission, spending a year at Guadalcanal in the Solomon Island 9, before going to Norfolk Island Ha had proved himself to be a very keen and useful worker, and had a remarkable aptitude for languages. .
