ENGINEER'S REPORT.
Since making my last report the Waipa bridge approaches were completad and the bridge was formally opened for traffic on the 2nd inst. by the Hon. ,W. H. Henries.— Tenders were invited for 60 chains of dray road formation on the Mangati road, near Pirongia, and the lowest tender, that of P. Power for £147 17a 3d was accepted by the chairman. —Tenders are now out for small metalling works on the Hauturu to Otorohanga, Hurua, and Mangakowhai roads. —The following is the position of the various metalling works now in progress: Ouruwhero Road: The metalling of this road extending 4 miles 75 chains is now practically completed. This completes the metalling works undertaken in the Otorohanga district this season, which extended a total distance of nearly 21 miles. The metal suDplied in every case is good, and when consolidated should make very fine roads. A few more culverts are yet required and will be put in shortly. Hauturu to Utorohanga Road: On a portion of this road beyond the Mangamahoe road junction, where only a depth of about 3 inches was originally put on, I am having remetalled. Mangorino Road: Good progress has recently been made with the metalling of this road and should be completed at an early date. Mairoa Road: The metalling of thia road is proceeding very satisfactorily. A distance of 2i miles is now completed Pungarehu Road: Mr Innes has now metalled a distance of 60 chains and Mr Tarry has 2J miles done. The latter, who is making good progress, should complete the portion of his contract on this road at an early date. Kumaraßoad: Mr Smyths has his crushing plant ready to place in position for the metalling of this road, but owing to trouble we are having with the natives to get into the quarry the work is at present hung up. Mangaotaki Road: I am now having some of the worst places on this road north of the Mangaotaki bridge metalled, and generally put in order for the winter.—Maintenance, Etc.: I have had the roads in the vicinity of Eawa put in gojd order with tfye grader. It is now at work on the Ngapaenga road. Repairs to other roads in various parts of the County has also been undertaken. — R. Gould, County Engineer.
