BRITISH SURPRISE GERMANS.

IMPORTANT POSITIONS CAPTURED. ARTILLERY UNNERVE ENEMY. London, Thursday. The British captured another brickfield at Volaines, between La Bassee and Featubert. l'he Germans lost a thousand killed and wounded, while the British lost barely a hundred. The British success was an important one. The Germans were strongly entrenched, but were unnerved by the deadly fire of two field piecen.

They speedily surrendered when the Britishers charged. After fierce fighting on Saturday night and Sunday the British captured two lines of trenches at Festubret. They took 500 prisoners, many of whom were young boys who had just reached the front.
