HIGH COMMISSIONER'S CABLE. The following is the High Commissioner's market report, dated London. January 30th, quotations unless otherwise specified being average market prices on spat: — Mutton.— Tha market is steady, with a moderate demand. Canterbury per lb, with the supply running short. North Island 5 7-16 d. Lamb. —The market is very firm, with a good demand. Canterbury twos 6gd, other than Canterbury this sea7d, second grade 6|d. Beef.—The market remains firm. Hindquarters 6 151-6 d, foreqaarters s|d. Chilled beef is in small quantity. Hinds 7Jd, f res s§d. Butter.—The market is quieter, and the demand falling off on account of high prices. Danish 144s to 148s, New Zealand 140s to 1425, Australian 136s to 140s, Siberian none offering, none having arrived; Argentine 136s to 140s.

Cheese. —The market is firm, at any advance. Canadian, white and coloured, 88s to 90s; New Zealand, white and coloured, 84s to 853 and occasionally 86s; Englisfe cheddar, 92s to 945.

Wool.—Tha market is firm at advanced prices. Large business is doing, and prices are strong. . Wheat.—The marketia firm, with a considerable amount of speculative buying. Nominal quotations: Canadian, 60s psr quarter; American, 59.' for immediate delivery; Argentine, 6fls 6d for February to March shipments. Hemp.—There are signs of an improvement in the market, which is firm, with more inquiry on .account of the small supply of German East African, Russian, and Italian. New Zealand, good fair grade, spot, £2B per ton; fair gradt, £26. Manila, £29 10s; January to March shipments, good fair. £27 10s ; fair, £25 10s; Manila, £29 10s. The output from Marila for the week was 17,000 bales.

FAT STOCK SALES. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company report:— At Westfield yards on Wednesday beef wag yarded in fall quantities, 3ome of the cattle being of excellent quality, but many of them were inferiorly fatted. Prime oxen realised last week's prices. Cows w*re higher in price from 20a to 30s per head; steerß sold at from 37s to 39s 6d, others 34s to 36s per 1001b; cows and heifers 27s to 31n; steers sold at from £7 12s 6d to £l7 ss; cows and heifers £5 5s to £ll 12s 6d. A draft of 16 steers from H. E. Reed, Wairanga, averaged £l6 12s 6d. A truck of steers from Otorohanga averaged £l6 17s 6d, and 2d steers from Mr Alf. Main Tamahere, realised £l4 8s 9d. Calves in short supply sold at high values. Heavy vealers £4 to £5 Bs, medium weight £3 to £3 18s, lighter 35s to £2 18s, smaller 15s to 335, small and fresh-dropped 5s to 12s 6d. Sheep were yarded in average numbers, and advanced in prices from 2a to 3s per heal. B9st wethers 25s to 27s 3d, others 18s to 245, heavy ewes 20s to 225, others 15s to 19s 6d, hnggets sold to 18s. Lambs, best quality, sold at from 17s to 19s l others 14s'to 16s 9d, inferiorly fatted lambs 9s to 13s 6d. Pigs were penned in short supply, and sold at higher rates. BaGoners £3 10s to £4 4s, large porkers £2 1.2s 6d to 33 6s, porkers 22s 6d to 455, slips 18a to 22s 6d, weaners 6s to 12s 6d.
