FIGHTING THE TURKS.
MARCHING ON EGYPT. Cairo, Wednesday. There is much activity in the neighbourhood of the Canal, where troops and warships are assembling. It is semi-officially stated that a reconnaissance inflicted severe losses on the Turks near Meera. The British casualties totalled fifty. Fighting has also occurred east of Eantnra, where the British casualties were five.
STORIES OF BRITISH REVERSES. Cairo, Wednesday. Fantastic stories about British reverses are officially circulated in Palestine. Among other absurdities, fireworks were let off at Jerusalem to celebrate the occupation of Suez. TURKISH LOSSES. Cairo, Wednesday. The Turks at Kantarß opened fire with mountain guns. A patrol replied with machine guns and rifles. The Turks showed no desire to come to close quarters. Small bodies of men at three other points east of the Canal did not come into contact with the British troops. A hydroplane dropped bombs on a Turkish column at Birmuraadad, inflicting losses.
