THE KAWA BRIDGE.

OFFICIAL OPENING CEREMONY. ARRANGEMENTS IN HAND. *t-i i Arrangements in connection with the official opening of the Kawa bridge, which is to take place next Tuesady, February 2nd, are now well in hand. The Hon. W. H. Herries, Minister of Native Affairs ar:d RailWays, will bo present, and a large attendance of settlers is anticipated. The bridge, which is the largest of its kind in the King Country, is a highly important link on the road to the west of the railway at Kawa, and will give much closer communication between railway and the back country as far as Kawhia. The construction Work was excellently carried out by Messrs Scott and Forsyth, the well-known bridge contractors, under the supervision of Mr E. R. Gould, County Engineer. Advantage will be taken of the visit of Mr Herries to place before him the urgent necessity for increasing the railway accommodation at Kawa station. One of the chief drawacks is the lack of accommodation for loading and unloading stock, and now that the bridge i 3 opened tha need will be greater than ever. The goods shed also requires enlarging to meet the demands- of a rapidly growing district, and when on the ground the Minister will have an opportunity of judging for himself of the nature of the facilities required.
