THE POLITICAL SITUATION.
MAO SI SEAT. REQUESTED. Whangarei, Monday. The candidate who was second on the list in the polling in connection with the recent election of a member for the Northern Maori district, Nau Brown, lodged a petition to-day praying for another election. He also lodged the sum of £2OO, which by law must b9 deposited. Messrs Prendergast, Devore, and Martin, of Auckland, are the solicitors for the petitioner.
THE TAUMARUNUI SEAT.
A PETITION LODGED. The Reform candidate for the Tauraarunui electorate, Mr C. >K. Wilson, has lodged an election petition asking for a scrutiny bv an Election Court of the votes polled at the different polling places in the electorate. It is alleged in the petition that, (he number of voting papers deposited in the ballot boxes was larger than the number of electors who are BhoWn to have votsd, and also that there were numbers of cases of dual voting and that the votes so recorded illegally have not been disallowed. The petition also sets forth a number of other alleged irregularities.
