SPORTING.

TE KUITI RACING CLUB. Work is proceeding ctn the course at Te Kumi in preparation for the coming race meeting, which is to be held on Saturday, February 13th. In fixing the date of the meeting over a week later than has been the case in the past, the committee was influenced by the fact that the date was annually getting closer to the Takapuna meeting, at which many of the horses likely to compete at Te Kuiti are engaged, and in order to avoid a clash the finding of a new dais became imperative. In deciding upon a Saturday for tha meeting the club has taken a step in th« right direction. A large percentage o? race followers attend ths meeting from other districts, .in iluding Auckland, and fthe weekend is generally the most convenient date for visitors to travel. The train arrangements for this year are similar to those made for the last meeting, including a special train from Auckland on the morning of the races and returning the same evening. A fair number of horses are already working on the track, and considerable local interest will be infußed into the races in which local owners Bre interested. Nominations for all events close with the secretary. Mr J. H. Trinnear, on January 22nd, at 9 p.m., and handicaps are due to appear on February Ist.
