HOSPITAL SUBSIDIES.

HEALTH DEPARTMENT'S • ACTION. . DISCUSSED.BY BOARD. At a meeting of the Waikato Hospital Board on Thursday, the position in regard to the Kawhia and Raglan Medical Associations wes discussed at length, strong disapproval being expressed at the refusal of the Health Department to pay the promised subsidy of 2s in the £ on subscriptions.

It was decided that the £4O forwarded by the Kawhia Association, and wbich it was understood would carry the subsidy, be refunded, and that this board expresses its disgust at the treatment meted out to people endeavouring in every possible way to assist themselves by subscribing.

In regari to the Raglan Association, in connection with which the Department had promised to grant a subsidy for three years, it was decided that the board take aB strong steps as possible to compel the Government to carry out their own arrangements for the term agreed upon.

"It is a difty, sly sort of action," said the mover, Mr Campbell Johnstone.

Mr Ryburn,in seconding the motion, said he was of opinion that if the matter was fairly laid before the Hon. R. H. Rhodes, Minister in charge of Hospitals, they would get justice done. Hs fait sure that the Minister knew nothing of about the matter. .

The Chairman:- Will the Minister repudiate what the chief has done? Mr Ryburn: He doss not know what the chief has done. , It was practically the Inspector of Hospitals who made the agreement. Mr Johnstone: If he can dispute that, he is simply not fit to hold the position. That is all. The board has to carry out the agreements it makes. The Secretary: It may be necessary to eo to the Prime Minister before this is all over.

Mr Johnstone: I should go to the very end.
