BRITISH NAVAL DISASTER.

FORMIDALBE SUNK IN THE CHANNEL.

ONLY 71 MEN RESCUED.

London, Saturday

It is officially announced that the battleship Formidable, a Eister ship to the ill-fat6d Bulwark, was sunk in the Channel yesterday. It is uncertain whether she struck a mine or was torpedoed by a German submarine. Light cruisers which were in the vicinity picked up 71 survivors, but the remainder are missing.

It is possible that more were picked up by other vsssel-s, but nothing is definitely known upon this point.
