TANGITU SPORTS.
The second annual gathering of the Tangitu Athletic Club took place at Mapiu on New Year's Day,in splendid weather, and a large crowd from all parts of the district, every description of vehicle being requisitioned for means cf transit, one horse arriving wtih three children and a' wan aboard, and another With two children and "Daddy," also a tent so that the kiddies could have n, sleep when tired out. The club Bhould have a credit balance us the outcome of the meeting. /The commitee are a very live set of officials, and the general public do not reogniss sufficiently what a lot of work has to be done before the day, to Bay nothing of the toil on the day after the i sports clearing up. Cave, oE Waimihn, had a thankless tuek, and was very reluctant at giving hia decision in many instances, the competitcrs being so near equal. However, his work was never auestioned. The refreshment booth, in the capable hands of Messrs H. Ringham and 3. Taylor, did ( excellent business. Numerous picnic>partieß.were in evidenee, which tended to relieve the refreshment booth. The dance at night was attended by a big crowd, and dancing wbb kept up till daylight., Owing to the war, the committee did not canvas business people for.trophias, but Messrs L. D. Next year the committee will probably be able to increase the prize money, and with a good road from Waim.iha, it is hoped that more outside competitors will come in,' also people from Te Kuiti and Taumarunui .could not spend New Year's Dav better than in taking a run into the Tangitu block. Everybody may be sure of a hearty welcome, and competitors a fair field with no favour for anyone. ~:. ■ . ■ • .
