GERMAN FARMHAND SUSPECTED
Palmerston N., Wednesday
Advice was received last night of a terrible triple murder committed at Ruahine, nine miles from Mangaweka, presumable on Monday morning, the victims being Mr McCann, a farmer, his wife and daughter. As McCann was found lying in the cowshed it is presumed he was milking at the timeC The murderer evidently killed him with a tomahawk. Mrs McCann and child were found lying in bed. Mrs 'McCann was killed by a blow from a tomahawk which, sank into the skull from_ eye to eye. The nature of the child's wounds are not stated.
Sergeant Harvie of Taihape and Constable Essen of Mangaweka proceeded to the scena of the murder. Detectives Siddells and Quirk have also gone. * Suspicion points to a German farm labourer who has disappeared.
