DISTRESS IN AUSTRO-HUNGARY.
DECEIVING THE PEOPLE. BY PROMISES OF PEACE. -r Rome, Monday. Distress and famine are increasing in Austria-Hungary, especially in tha country districts. The authorities, in order to alia? discontent, declared that peace would be concluded in January through America's mediation. An Austrian official message states that the Russian offensive between Kymnow and Tuchow forced the Austrian army to fall back somewhat. It asserts that Russian attacks on tha Lower Dunjec and Lower Nida have failed.
