KINO COUNTRY RAILWAY COMMITTEE.
MEETING AT PIO PIO.
A meeting of the Central King Country Railway Committee was held at Pio Pio on 'December 16th. There was a good attendance and Mr G. E. Jackson occupied the chair. Proposed Railway Route.—Messrs Davis and Porteoua submitted a proposed route frcro Bangatiki to Ka whia via Waitomo, with u junction at Hauturu and another line from Hauturu to Qhura via Mairoa, Pio Pio and Aria, a total distance of 7 5 miles.—lt Was resoWed to get a party of representative settlers from the districts served by the proposed lines* to inspect these and other suggested routes early in th* New Year. Local Railways Act.—The Act was discussed and it was decided to get the railway constructed under the provisions of tha Act. It was also decided to issue subscription lists to cover the preliminary expenses. The following constitute the Railway Committee, appointed by a public meeting of the ratepayers of Pio Pio and surrounding districts, held at Pio Pio on July 31st, 1914:-Messes G. E Jackoo, chairman, Pio Pio; R. Pelch, Mairoa; P. O'Dwyer, Paemako; G. Nelson, Aria; J. B Robertson, To Mapsra; Hobson, Pio Pio; W. B, S. Lindsay, Mangaotaki;.R. E. Burrow, Lower Mangaotaki; R. Body, Puketiti; C. Riddle, Rira; Wrn. Power, Pio Pio; R. Livingstone, Pio Pio. The committee was appointed to obtain all necessary information regarding the route and probable cost of a railway, and re port to a public meeting of the ratepayers, when ready.
