TE KUITI BOROUGH COUNCIL.

A meeting of the Te Kuiti Borough Council was held on Monday evening. There were prassnt his Worship the Mayor, Crs M. 3 ones, Mostyn Tnnss Mabbett, Samervi'ile, Martin, Elliott, Howarth and Jamas. River Daviation Works. The "Public Works Dipartment wrote askng ior plans of tha proposed work for approval Producer Plant. —Mr F. Black, consulting engineer, wrote stating he had authorised the purchase of piping for the new producer and to the effect that tha producer was now ready for forwarding. Fire Brigade Practise. —The Rev F. M. Eeattie wrote protesting against the Brigade practising on tbe Domain on Sunday mornings.—Left to the chairman of the Fire Brigade Committee to adjust. Awakino Road Culvert. —Mr W. J. Broadfooi wrote requesting that the culvert from the back of his premises be enlarged and offering to pay the cost of same.—Agreed to 'have the work done under the supervision of the foreman. Seddon Street Drainage.—Mr G. T. Lawrie wrote asking for the drainage in Seddon street to be improved.— Left to Works Committee with power to act. George Street—A. M. Ferguson wrote with respect to ths state of the footpah in George street.—Referred to Works Committee. Approach to Premises.—Mr A, E. Robinson wrote asking for covering authority for steps placed to approach hia premises—Lsft to Works Committee to inspect and approve. Billiard Room License.--The application for a transfer of the license nf the Tsupiri street billiard saloon, from J. Sanderson to R. Backaridge was approved, Taxi-driver's License. —F. P. Wilkie was granted a taxi-driver's license.

- Bonnie Glan Estate.—A petition was received from fifteen residents on the Bonnia Glen estate asking that water and electric light services be extended.—Referred to ths Works Committee to report on thi3 and other desirable extensiojis. Revision of By-laws.—A draft of the revised by-laws was submitted by the committee, and on the motion of Cr Howarth seconded by the Mayor, it was resolved that the same be considered at a sppcial meeting of the Council, to be he'd on January 18th next. The following report, of the Fire Prevention Sanitation and Reserves Committee was adopted That 14 new uniform 3 be procured for members of the Fire Brigade at a cost of £6O; that the sum of £2 ss, being fire money due to the Brigade, be passed for payment; that the to'wn clerk be instructed to obtain an opinion from the solicitor to the Municipsl Association as to whether the Fire Brigcda has any legal standing or authority in the district, and whether they are governed by "The Fire Brigades. Act, 1908." and its am9ndments, al3o whether the firemen wr can legally claim 2s 6d par night for - attendance at picture theatres and public halls, also whether the Council can legally compel the proprietors of picture the-atres and public halls to lay a 3in main to their buildings with fire plug hydrant, and all appliances necessary for use in the event of fire; that the building inspactor be instructed to report to the Council upon ths efficiency or otherwise of fire escape? in all hoarding houses and public buildings within the borough; that G. H. Yeatea be instructed to compile a lis't of all properties in the sewerage area not y et connected with the system; that the chairman be authorised to arrange with the Borough foreman to hive all the Borough reserves, quarry sitaa ; and Esplanade to the centre of the road on each side, cleared of all noxious weeds. Electrical Engineer's RepoTt.—Applications for Supply: The applica tiona registered for the ironth are five, and the consumers connected to the mains four, thus making the totals tol date 250 applications registered and 219 consumers connected to the mains. —Units Sold Daring the Month: The units sold during the month are 7274, showing an inraaae of 1070 on the previou3 months wjrkjng interruptions in the Supply: The supply has been subjected to three interruptions during- ths month, although ths length of time shut down has only bs*n short intervals. In ona case the trouble was due to er/gin3 failure, and in ths other two due to line contacts, A good deal of damage was done to the lines during the gale which occurred on the 13th inst., and many repairs will have to be effecte(3 Mains and Net-work: Tne sagging of the cables is getting very bad in many parts ot the town, notsithstanding that re-straining and regulating has been done quite recently, and lam of the opinion that any work done can only be of a. temporary ' nature until such tune as provision ia made in the direction of stronger terminal an 3 ani!= , paleß.—ProdaMi Gas Plant- The working of this plant remains much about the same, alK though the results have b-en slign ly improved since the rspaira to the bottom plate, and now tnat Taupiri coal is available. The new producer eas plant was dslivered at the works on the Bth inst. and is in course of e-eetion. Foreman's Report. —General: During tbe month the ordinary work in connection with the maintenance of ths borough haa been carried r>ut. The outside roads are being carefully looked after and holes found in them are filled up. The water tables in are being attended to when possible. Several waste paper tins have been erected in Rura street, and should greatly assist in keeping the footpath clean. I am having the names of the principal streets overhauled and these 1 hops to have fixed in position in a few days. A railing has been erected on th 3 other side of Rora street in front of the Municipal Buildings for the convenience of horsemen. The water main has been extended in Rora street across the river to Massey street a3 authorised by the Council, fire plugs and valves being put in where necessary. The fence authorised to be erected in TaI whana street has been erected and the footpath bridge made wider. An inspection of the pipe line was made on Ist inst., and everything found satisfactory. There was a slight accident at the dam caused by someone turning down the penstock screw and bending the rod which opens and closes the gate. This hss been repaired and .a padlock fixed to prevent anyone inter- ' faring with it again.—Bora Street Breastwork: Careful.attention is being paid to this, and so far since last meeting of the Council no further damage has occurred. —Quarrying, To Kumi: Crushing metal at the quarry has been carried on the whole of the month, when a quantity of 580 cubic yards of metal wag crushed. The number of men engaged at iba quarry at present is seven. —Sewers: The3e are being carefully attended to, be ing flushed out every week and kept in a clean condition. —Rnra Street: Metalling is now being carried on in Rora street to complete ihe portion of the road from Alexander street to ths school. —Awakino Road: Taking advantage of ths rive? being si) low a start has been made on this rosd id do metalling authorised by tht Council .with river shingle, some vsry good metal being obtainable at rntsent. Electric Light Plant: The foundation of the new gas producer has been fixed in position. The retort houss of the power station has been extended 30ft and a curver erected over the two producers to allow the smoke to get away freely.—T. Dix, Borough Fo:.eman. ' . Poundkeeper's Report. Animals imoounded frcm Ist to 30th November, and fees collected for same are Horses impounded and, released 17, cattle 8. total 25; fees' received for above, £5 6a; dog tax collected, 10s; total feees for above, £5 16 s ?. Sanitary Matters: A list of names has been prepared of all ths premises not yet connected with the sewerage. Other matters have been attended to during tha month with regard to cleanliness of premises and shops and are now in a fairly satisfactory condition.—G. H. Yeates.
