DEFAULTERS TO ISM CUT OFF.

The laxity of consumers in paying their electric light accounts was referred to at the Borough Council meeting on Monday niaht. The Mayor said a great deal of troubla waa being caused by a number of people and he thought steps flhould be taken to improvo matters. It had been the custom to cut oil defaulting consumers, and ucon the account being paid to re-connect. This meant a good deal of vvoik for the Borough officials and very little inconvenience for the consumers as they could get reconnected the same day as a rule. As matters Btood this was unfair to the people who had applications in for connections and who could not be supplied owing to the supply being limited. He suggested that all defaulters should be cut ofT and instead of being re-connected upon their accounts being paid thoy should bo required to make fresh application and should take their position at the bottom of the list of applicants, There were a number of applicants anxiouslv awaiting connection and who would be glad to pay their accounts regularly. He proposed that notice should be inserted in the newspaper on the lines mentioned. The mution w:.s favoured by the councillors and was adopted.
