STRONG POSITION HELD,

Pretoria, Wednesday,

An official message states that Captain Rutherford, with 50 of Eslin'a Horss and 100 South African Mounted Rifles, attacked iJOO rebels in a strong position at Rondefontoin, protected by rugged hills. Furious fighting took place. Captain Allan King was shot just after binding up a trooper's wound. Two others were killed, and 11 wounded. An it was impossible to dislodge the rebels, the loyalists retired tj Hammanskraal. Seven rebels wore killed, and peveral wounded. Another message states that Commandant Geyser captured four rebel '

commandants and 50 followers at Nylstroom, in Central Transvaal.

ENGAGEMENTS WITH REBELS. Received, Friday, 10.40 p.m. Pretoria, Friday. Official. —The rebels mp.de numerous unsuccessful attempts to derail armoured trains on the Rcitz-Frankfort lino. Brisk engagements took place and numbers of the rebels ware lulled or wounded. Of Da Wet's three generals only Rantenbuch remains. Rocso De Villiers surrendered, and Nicolas Serfontein is wounded.
